How I've got through the last few days I don't rightly know:

Wednesday: Taster day for year 6. I had prepared a good lesson for the pupils ready for 3 classes to run simultaneously forgetting that Publisher will not allow access to the same file by more than one person at a time i.e. creating a read only version. To test this I would have had to have logged on several times and attempted to do so which of course is not an obvious test to make. I should have remembered. Therefore as the pupils tried to log on it all went very wrong. I felt like a complete ass. Especially as I was performing in front of a member of staff I find difficult to interact on a professional basis with. I retrieved the situation by quickly copying and naming 20 versions of the doc and away we went. The 3 subsequent lessons I taught were absolutely fine. I should ave been pleased with myself for copingb in a pressured situation but instead fixated on the 5 mins at the beginning of the day. The other staff present said it was fine and to stop ripping myself up about it. That evening was the Parents' Open evening for year 6. We had a much higher turn out than last year with a steady flow of parents and children. We put copies of some of the wanted posters, which included their pictures we had taken, made during the day on the wall and the children took great delight in finding their pictures. It was a 13 hour day all told.

Thursday:
Recovery from yesterday. I'm afraid I did nothing substantial through the morning just standard support of pupils. Went home at lunch and spent the afternoon making Gannt charts so much so that I was late for the childrens' dentist appointments. Cracked Control panels though!!!! Governor meeting about appointing new headteacher was very interesting but does look to involve a lot of work.

Today:
Busy producing Interim reports for year 7 class and lesson resources for pm with TC. Spent P4 teaching y10 inc. one to one with LH and then P5 with y11. Need to discuss Lesson planning with TC. He is the TEACHER after all so should I be worried about lesson plans. This evening sent a couple of hellos to new researchers and found info on standard job descriptions for TAs. Last night asked FT at the junior school for a copy of their TA job spec. Also WB suggested asking GW the bursar for a job description. Here is a copy of my thoughts on a org chart as they don't exist although there is a staff meeting in Monday to discuss the staffing structure. I've just wondered wheter I should be keeping a log of the hours I spend working.

4th October

Funny sort of time at the moment. the weekend was spent browsing the UV site and contacting people. Using skype setting up a contact list and updating it. I will not spend every day doing so as the list will establish it self as people drop out more seem to be added all the time. I also spent a lot of time doing house work to convince myself I can do both course and home. I need to get into a pattern of study but I think this is early days for me here as well as the family. Monday college was a bit of a washout as module assignment was not available immediately. I google searched and found the module details for cohort2. I felt I needed to look at my job description and organisational structure at school. For this I also needed the schoolsurvival guide with lists of roles and names.

I went in to school always a risk as I'll be nabbed for work. I DO NOT HAVE A JOB DESCRIPTION!!!! Isn't that appalling. I haven't been given a copy of my PMR performance management review and so personal targets. There are no published org. charts and so I spent time drawing rough sketches. I spoke to the head and a couple of deputies their very happy to help but I think it will be led by me. I suppose it is my assessment of the organisation more than the true accuracy that is important.

Today was spent preparing for tomorrows taster day for y6 and the parents eve. I taught part of a sci lesson on how to draw pie charts. Helped a y12 doing some of the same. Tutored in the morning one pupil was missing but the other pupils had seen him on the bus. I saw the year head AC as I was concerned obviously (y7) checked later in the day to hear he had come in and felt ill and mum came and collected him. A bit of crowd controlin a sci leson when cover turned up late.

TA trg after school was on tabs and indents structuring text on the page. I broached the subject of videoing one of the lessons with them. They said they'd have to have notice to get their hair done but were happy to give it a go. I've also decided to photo a day in the life of me aswell poss for la4. Prob not audio as lots of likely lads. Will talk to (media teacher about video equipment. This could be a learning activity???
